Ride or Die: Assassin and MP's wife are buddies, with some hunks, some queerbaiting, and a bonus profile of the cute Czech-Indian bartender.

Ride or Die
on Amazon Prime, is about a woman (a MP's wife) who discovers that her "ride or die" (close friend) is a spy.  There's bound to be a gay-subtext romance between them, and probably a gay friend in there somewhere.  Or at least some beefcake.

Scene 1
: Austria.  A group of people dancing and hetero-flirting outside in the snow. A sniper zooms on on Oleg (Pavel Konstantyn).  Her handler tells her to take the shot, but she refuses.  Instead, she skiis down and stabs him, then skiis away with Russians in hot pursuit. She crashes or eludes them, and takes off her mask: It's Judith (Hannah Waddingham)!

Scene 2: At the chalet that night.  People dancing, drinking, and hetero-flirting. Judith wins the hammering-a-nail-while-drunk contest, then asks Hans the Bartender (Taylor Napier) for another drink "or nine."

When he gets off work, they bounce and crash into her hotel room to smoochify.  Darn, I thought she was a lesbian.  Nice chest shot of the Bartender as Judith is slowly unhooking her bra.

She gets up in the early morning hours.   "So, can I call you?"

"Scoff, scoff.  Absolutely not!"  So he's not an ongoing character, just there to identify Judith as not gay?.

"Who the fuck are you?" He asks as she walks away.

Good question, she ponders.  Her passport says that she's a forensic accountant, but that's just a boring cover to avoid follow-up questions.   She's actually an assassin.

Scene 3: London.  A closeup of a woman's wedding ring (heterosexual identity established immediately) as she drives, listening to a true crime podcast. She inches her way into a parking space, but now she's blocked in,so she has to climb out through the window.  It's Debbie (Octavia Spencer)!

Assassin Judith calls, pretending that she was at an accounting conference, but she'll be back in time for Book Club, and pick her up an apothecary cabinet at the Antique Warehouse.

It's like Black Friday in the U.S., crowds jostling and running over each other to get in.  Real-life celebrity antique dealer Drew Pritchard and his boyfriend rush toward the apothecary cabinet, but Debbie beat them to it!  They fume with jealousy.  Wait -- the real-life guy is straight.  They just gave him a boyfriend on the show to queerbait.

"Who the hell is that?"  The Boyfriend asks.  I agree.  What does this scene have to do with anything?

Debbie ponders it. I made law review at Yale, fell in love, moved to England.  I have two grown children.  My husband is David Claybourne, Member of Parliament, who will be the next Prime Minister.  But I have a secret -- one that would tear my life apart.  Are you and Judith secretly girlfriends?  No, it's Book Club tomorrow,a nd she hasn't read the book, har har.

Scene 4: London.  Assassin Judith arrives at a fancy restaurant for lunch with Sam (Calam Lynch), her Handler, who demands to know why she stabbed the last mark instead of shooting him, resulting in 100 witnesses.

"You used to follow the rules, but now every case turns into chaos. You're acting out, getting sloppy, and putting us all in danger."  He gives her another assignment, but "no mistakes, or you're gone."

The Mark is the hunky Billy Donovan (Ed Skrein), a crime boss.  It's to be done at the Water Relief Gala, the charity that Billy launders his money through.

"And poison him.  No high tech gadgets."

Scene 5
: At home, the MP (Jamie Parker) is upset because the Book Club is all ladies, giggling and carrying on in a gender-stereotyped fashion, and because Debbie bought too much junk at the Antiques Fair.   But she assuages him by cooking him dinner and offering to go over his speech.

Tomorrow he's meeting a client at a charity event. Uh-oh.  Debbie insists on going with him. "But it's business, not political."  "I don't care, I'm going."  He snorts "Fine!" and stomps out.  Why don't you want her there?  Is something sinister going on?  Isn't that the same meeting where Judith's hit is?

Judith enters with wine.  They discuss the book, ladies with weird hair, Debbie living in her husband's shadow, and makeup, while a mysterious figure watches from outside the window.

Scene 6: In the morning, Debbie heads to Parliament to give the Railroad Chairman (Ben Bradshaw) a Zambian terracotta pig that she bought at the antique place yesterday.  "And by the way, could you sign the Transport Bill?"  Bribing the old guy, har har.

Meanwhile, Assassin Judith heads to a shop called Williams and Daughter, where she gets her fake ids, guns, knives, crossbows, and high-tech gadgets.  But today she just needs some poison, two vials to hide in her shoe.

After Judith leaves, Daughter calls Handler Sam, flirts with him, and reports that she bought 220 miligrams of aconite. (wolfsbane). Dang, I was hoping that he would be gay.

More after the break.  Caution: Explicit.

Jacob Tierney: Former teen idol produces homophobic and gay-positive work, has a husband and two wives, but is not a sea monster.

As the younger generation says, "I was today years old" when I discovered that Jacob Tierney, producer of Heated Rivalry (2025), about gay hockey players, did not voice the gay sea monster in the Disney-Pixar Luca ( 2021).  That was Jacob Tremblay.  They're both gay, their names are almost identical, and I thougt that Luca came out in the 2010s, so it's an understandable mistake.

Correction: Tremblay (potential dick left) has played only girl-crazy since Luca, and there's no significant boy hugging on his social media.  He may be straight.

But I was sure that I remembered Jacob Tierney as a teen idol somewhere.

Turns out that I remember the other Jake from the creepy indie film Josh and S.A.M. (1993).  13-year old Josh (Jacob) is upset by "accusations" that he is gay, so he concocts a wild scheme to prove his straightness, including convincing his 7-year brother Sam (Noah Fleiss) that he is a cyborg.  How does having a cyborg brother make you straight?

They go on a bizarre road trip similar to the one in Motorama, and meet The Girl (Martha Plimpton of The Goonies)

As a child star, Jacob appeared in many other Canadian movies and tv shows.  He was best known for playing 10-year old vampire hunter Max in Dracula: The Series; Greg in the teen soap Watatow; and the sarcastic Eric, who was cut after the first season of Are You Afraid of the Dark?

As a teenager he was best know for The Neon Bible (1995), based on the book by Confederacy of Dunces author John Kennedy Toole.  I thought that guy only wrote the one book, and his mom found it in his room after his death and had it published, to the protests of readers everywhere.

Back to Neon: Shy, awkward David (Jacob, Drake Bell), growing up in an awful Southern Gothic town, finds comfort in the visit of an eccentric aunt.   Critics called it "unrelentingly downbeat": "it starts off dark and gets darker."

In adulthood Jacob began writing, directing, producing, and often  starring in his own films.  He came out at some point, so we should expect some LGBT representation:

Dad (2002): After a year in Africa, Mark comes home to find his Mom schtupping his best friend (Jacob).   I guess we're not there yet.

Twist (2003): A queer (more queer) Oliver Twist set in contemporary Toronto, with Nick Stahl as Dodge (The Artful Dodger).  Here's the gay stuff, finally.

The Trotsky (2009): A Montreal high school student (Jay Baruchel) believes that he is the reincarnation of Trotsky.  He starts a revolution and kisses The Girl.  Wait, that's heterosexist...

Good Neighbors (2010): Three friends in Montreal, all straight, one a serial killer.  Hey....

He Hated Pigeons (2015): A man (Pedro Fontaine, left) drives from the north to the south end of Chile to keep a promise to a dead boyfriend.  Back to gay content.

Lovesick
(2016): Dash (Jacob, left) is depressed over losing his ex-girlfriend, until he meets The New Girl.  The gay representation didn't last long.

Another Kind of Wedding (2017).  You think it's going to be about a gay wedding, but the title is just queerbaiting.  A man (Jacob) is about to get married, when his brother (Kevin Zegers), who happens to be the bride's ex-boyfriend, shows up to try to win her back.

Young Farts Trailer Parts: Hunky Ukrainian-Canadian brothers sell rv parts, with Jim the Stripper, a lot of gay hints, and the World's Biggest You-Know-What

When I saw Young Farts Trailer Parts on Amazon Prime,  I figured it was a spin-off of the Canadian series Trailer Park boys, but it's actually a reality show starring Dawson (left) and Jagger (right) Glowatsky, brothers from Vegreville, Alberta, who run an rv salvage business.  Why is rv salvage a tv series?

They started posting videos selling their products on Youtube and Tiktok.  Soon they were doing comedy stunts and challenges:

Golfing off the roof of a rv
Playing rv chariot races
Playing Twister in a moving rv

A truck pulls off Dawson's clothes
The guys in underwear rolling on a mattress
They slap each other's butts.

Wait -- they roll around in underwear?
They show their bare butts?

Is it getting hot in here?

Jacob Tierney was a fan, and approached to ask if they wanted to do a reality show.

Wait -- Jacob Tierney, the producer of Heated Rivalry, one of the most popular gay-themed tv series of all time?

And Letterkenny and Shoresy?

Jacob Tierney who owns the production company Accent Aiglu with his life partner Brendan Brady?

Maybe there's more to these guys than meets the eye.

Scene 1: They introduce themselves and their schtick, and then the town of Vegreville, where "there's not a lot goin' on" (to quote Corner Gas).  It's flat.

Dawson has been gone for six days, having a baby (with his wife, I assume).   He explains: "We is who we is.  We smoke, we drink, we swear. We never had real jobs, and I dropped out of high school. That's what sets us apart.  We don't know what the fuck we're doing."

Scene 2: A tour of the warehouse.  They introduce Jim the Stripper, who asks "Where's my pole, boys?", although he's not that kind of stripper: he uses his impressive biceps to cut up rvs.

I got your pole right here, Stud.

Dory, the Inventory Manager, who posts the parts for sale online. She enjoys saying "Fuck you, Jim."

Shipping Manager Tressa.  She enjoys weed.

Mom Teresa, "the glue that holds it all together."

Dad Cam, whose coffee mug caught my attention.  There are three reasons why a guy might own a cup with a blond hunk in a speedo on it, but only one reason why he would be filmed for television holding it.

Scene 3: Time for a team meeting: They're down 30% in sales from last year, and since they are a seasonal business (people don't buy rvs or parts in the winter), they have to hustle and make this summer count.

Their yard is almost empty, because Dawson, who is in charge of getting rvs to strip (for parts) or flip (for resale), has been busy having a baby.  So he'll have to step up to fill the yard.

Cut to Dawson making some phone calls.

Mason McKenzie: From a fairy's dungeon to Poison Ivy, pickleball, Phi Psi and a physique. With Aidan, Mason, and the Hunter nude

Once Upon a Time, with the characters from all the Disney fantasy movies related in a complex genealogy, was almost entirely heterosexist.  There was a blink-and-you-miss-it lesbian romance (with the couple vanishing immediately after their kiss) and a few very brief gay-subtext romances. One of the most significant was between Gideon, son of the Rumpelstiltskin and Belle, and Roderick, his cellmate in the Black Fairy's dungeon.  They were played by Anton Starkman and Mason McKenzie as children, and Grayson Gabriel and Giles Mathey as adults.

That's four actors to check.

I've already profiled Anton Starkman.

Giles Matthey is extremely ugly, and straight.

There are too many Grayson Gabriels to find the actor.

That leaves Mason McKenzie.  At least he has a chest (above), a nice backside (left), and no tattoos to date.

Mason was born in 2005 in Barrie, Ontario, about an hour north of Toronto. After many tv commercials, he broke into scripted tv in two 2017 episodes of the soap When Calls the Heart, as the bullying nephew of evil railroad executive Jeremy Wyatt.  (Nikolas Ducik, left played his brother, Earl).

Then came the Once Upon a Time episode, a thriller, and two romcoms: Frozen in Love (2018) and Love Under the Rainbow (2019), not to be confused with Under the Rainbow, about the actors who played Munchkins in The Wizard of Oz

You played the kids of the romantic leads, not the guys themselves, but still, it's not looking good for your gay representation score, Mason Baby.

In a 2019 episode of Project Blue Book, UFO researcher Hynek (Aidan Gillen, right) handles the case of a scoutmaster who disappeared after his troop witnessed a UFO.  Was he abducted by the Men in Black? Mason plays one of the scouts.

Another Aidan dick.

In a  2020 episode of The Baby-Sitters' Club,  Mary-Anne is hesitant about approaching her crush, so one-shot gay character Alex (David Raynolds, not Reynolds) tells her about his crush on a boy at theater camp.  Mason plays Toby, one of his friends, but not the crush.
