"Wayward": A troubled youth school in 2003 and 2025, with gay teases, annoying misdirections, delinquent muscle, and Patrick's penis

The 2025 tv series Wayward (one of those annoying Netflix one-word titles) is set at a school for troubled youth, so there's bound to be a lot of 30-year old fitness models playing juvenile delinquents, working out in the gym, lying shirtless in their bunks, and forming gay-subtext buddy-bonds.  I'm in.

Scene 1: A teenage boy (John Daniel), with a bloody shirt, breaks through a window and runs away from the Tall Pines Academy, while spotlights, dogs, and armed guards chase him, and a brainwashing chant plays "You're on your back, crying for your mother.  Your mother's face is a door..."

Running Boy is trapped by a lake.  He tries to hide under the water, but the brainwashing chant is too much.  He sees a door and screams.

Scene 2: Toronto, 2003
.  A lesbian couple, free-spirit Leila and her responsible Girlfriend, are sitting on the roof of their school, smoking and discussing their futures after they break free.  They pledge allegiance to the Beatles, escape from the roof, and are called into the headmaster's office (Patrick J. Adams, left).  He tells Leila that she is failing her classes due to her traumatic past, and dragging the Girlfriend down with her, so she is going to be sent to Tall Pines Academy in the U.S.

Patrick's d*ck after the break

Scene 3: Tall Pines, Vermont, now. A butch/femme lesbian couple, the femme extremely pregnant, head through town.  Butch Alex complains about how old-fashioned and dinky it is, and when they get to the house, complains about its retro 1950s look.  But they have no choice: Detroit turned out to be a shithole, and the Wife grew up here, so they can get a house easily.  Alex decides that she can endure it, and they start making out.

Two lesbian couples?  Nice representation, but how about some gay men?  John Daniel is quite femme in real life.  If Riley isn't dead, maybe he'll be gay.

The 2003 and 2025 timelines are interspliced, but I'm separating them to make the plot easier to understand.

Toronto, 2003:
Leila and her girlfriend are raiding the refrigerator and discussing shrooms.  Girlfriend doesn't like Kyle (Donald Maclean, Jr): he never hangs out, and he's way old, like 26.   In other news, Eli is totally horny for Girlfriend.  Wait -- these girls are straight?  But they're hanging all over each other and discussing their future together.  Sounds like queerbaiting.

Suddenly Girlfriend's Dad Brian (not listed in the IMDB) and the rest of the family appear, all irate.  After kicking Leila out, Dad complains that Girlfriend is going to fail all her classes this year to hang out with a criminal.  Back story: Everyone thinks that Leila murdered her sister.

Leila goes home to a horrible house in Toronto's ghetto, where her mom is watching a tv show about out-of-control kids that terrorize their parents.  Up to her room to get high and burn the Tall Pines Academy brochure.

The next day, the history class is watching The Thomas Crowne Affair with Pierce Brosnan?  The teacher is starting to cry; two hetero students are making out right at their desk. Girlfriend wants to know what this has to do with Canadian history -- it's not even set in Canada.  Uh-oh, Eli  (not listed in the IMDB), starts flirting and proffering pills.  He saw the exams in the staff room, so Leila and Girlfriend are going to break into the school so they can steal the answers.

When Girlfriend gets home from school, she finds Dad entertaining Bill from Work and his wife, who criticize her outfit and interest in social justice. The parents order her to go upstairs, change clothes, and help with the entertaining, "and pretend to be our daughter."  This causes her to blow up.  Dad grounds her, but she escapes and runs away.

Left: random guy with no connection to the show.  This review was getting a little beefcake-light.

The girls and Eli sneak into the school, take some shrooms, and frolick before stealing the test questions that will allow them to pass.  Then Leila dumps the Girlfriend to hang out with her boyfriend Kyle. At least she left Eli for you to do stuff with.

Later, Girlfriend tries to sneak back into the house, but the whole family is still up.  Her sister hugs her. Who died?

She goes to bed, but is awakened by men with flashlights, who tie her up, put a bag on her head -- with the parents' permission -- and drag her to a sinister white van. That's hardly a legitimate way to enroll a teen in a troubled youth academy.

The sun is just coming up when they arrive, and are welcomed by headmaster Leanne.  Wait -- how did they get through American customs with a screaming, tied up girl?

Sebastian Garcia: Jules Verne boy "no es heterosexual," but plays teens with girlfriends. With modeling photos and cocks.

Jules Verne was one of my favorite authors when I was a kid -- Around the World in 80 Days, The Mysterious Island, Journey to the Center of the Earth -- so when I saw  a 2025 Spanish tv series based on 20,000 Leagues under the Sea on Disney Plus, I immediately clicked on it.

Ulp -- it has nothing to do with the original novel, and it's a sequel, making the plot difficult to follow.  Apparently the descendants of Captain Nemo are guarding the portal to an alternate world called the Verne Dimension, but a ludicrous mustachioed baddie wants in for world-conquesting.  Diego and his buds were trapped there in the last series, and now he's suffering from PTSD.

It was so over-the top amateurish that I couldn't watch, except to fast-forward in search of scenes of gay interest. All I found was Diego, or maybe his lookalike older brother, strung up by the baddie.

I always check for beefcake photos of the cast before watching, and Sebastián García Huerta, who plays Diego, had several. Here he models his Calvin Kleins on a website called No Soy Heterosexual.

Entonces, eres gay?

Actor, dancer, singer, and model Sebastian grew up in Mexico City.  He studied dubbing at the Escuela de Doblaje Niños, and began his career as a voice artist in 2019.

Among the actors he has dubbed into Spanish are: Billy Barratt, Logan Kim, Cameron Crovetti, Jeremy T. Thomas, Julian Lerner, Brady Noon, Ezra Dewey, Chase Dillon, and Isaac Ordonez, who you may know as Pericles in Merlina.

I like those names a lot better than Pugsley in Wednesday.

Sebastian has ten acting credits listed on the IMDB, starting with El Rey, Vicente Fernández (2022)a biopic of "the Mexican music  icon."   Sebastian plays the teenage Vicente, who protects his mother, washes cars, boxes, gets a girlfriend, and sings shirtless. It's on Netflix.

¡Que viva México! (2023). on Netflix, stars Alfonso Herrera, here lying atop his boyfriend in another movie.  A middle class "family man" who goes to bed in silly pajamas while his wife wears a revealing outfit, he returns to his home town to become involved in humorous squabbles about his inheritance.  Apparently there's a transphobic portrayal.

Sebastian plays the teenage Pancho, shown working in the mines with his grandfather, when they stumble upon a vein of gold.  To ensure that the "lying brat" doesn't tell his Mom and brothers about the treasure, Grandpa kills him! (It turns out to be a dream).

More after the break. Caution: Explicit.

Manny and Gavin D. : Gay-coded Wisconsin brothers, a wrestler and a bodybuilder, aren't into girls, until.... With some d*ck pics

Several years ago, I became a friend of Gavin D. on Facebook and some other social media sites.  He was a college wrestler from Wisconsin, about 200 miles away from my college town.

He never mentioned girls, but he mentioned other boys quite often.  I figured that he was gay, but not quite ready to come out yet.

His younger brother Manny was quiet, artistic -- also gay-coded.

Apparently Manny was feeling left out, with two wrestler brothers and a sister who was a gymnast. At age 14 he joined the wrestling team, then began bodybuilding combined with intermittent fasting.  Strength training is fine for teenagers, but they are generally discouraged from bodybuilding until their bone structure is fully developed, and their body fat should not drop below 6-10%.

Manny shredded down to 3%, then down to an unhealthy and unattractive 1%.  Soon he was competing in venues like the Brew City Classic in Waukesha, and was the the subject of adulating video and articles "Insane 16 year old bodybuilder!"; "The Wonderkid Bodybuilder"!

Thomas Kuc: The gay-vague Gameshaker goes to the head of the class, hides under the bed, visits a bathhouse. With two dick pics to compare

If you were a teenager in 2015, you probably saw the Nickelodeon teencom Game Shakers (2015-19), about two girls who start a video game company with the help of billionaire rapper Double G.  They bring in his son Triple G (Benjamin Flores), because they have to, and Hudson (Thomas Kuc), because he's cute.  But dumb: he wears his underwear over his pants, and tries to hide behind a pencil.

In one episode, Hudson and Triple G dress as girls to meet girls, but otherwise no hetero-horniness is mentioned in the episode synopses.  They spend a lot of time dealing with threats to their relationship, so there is probably a gay-subtext romance going on (or text, although the Google AI insists that they're just friends).

Benjamin Flores Jr. is probably gay, but I want to profile Thomas Kuc because he's more muscular, and because I'm interested in languages: he's fluent in English, Spanish, and Polish, with some knowledge of Portuguese and Mandarin, an unusual combination.

Thomas was born in Brazil in 2002, presumably to Polish parents, and then moved to Los Angeles.  As a child he was a competitive gymnast, and appeared in some commercials and the soap General Hospital.

He broke into movies with The Diabolical (2015).  His character, Danny, is not mentioned in the plot synopsis, but presumably he's a friend of the beset-upon woman's son Jacob.

Next came 61 episodes of Game Shakers, plus playing Hudson on a  2017 episode of Henry Danger: the Game Shakers help the superhero-in-training protect Double G's worldwide charity concert.

Head of the Class
(1986-91) featured a class of high school overachievers being taught how to relax and live a little by their laid-back teacher.  My favorite was Brian Robbins (left)  as the leather-clad bad boy Eric, although Tony O'Dell, the conservative Republican, turned out to be gay in real life.

The revamped version on MAX (2021) brought in a new crowd of geniuses, including business tycoon Luke (former Prince of Peoria Gavin Lewis) and drama major Miles (Adrian Matthew Escalona), who is gay. Thomas played Ryan in two episodes, but he's not mentioned in the episode synopses, and the series has been removed from MAX.  Most likely he played a random student.

Thomas's other work is aggressively heteronormative:

He played the Boyfriend of singer Anna Duboc in Promises to Keep (2021).

Her Toxic Boyfriend in First Love (2023).

A female artist's ex-husband in They Met (2025).

More after the break. We'll get to the n*de photos, I promise.

"High Tide": Two guys discover the unrelenting agony of gay life. In Provincetown. With a heck of a lot of nudity

I don't usually watch gay-specific movies: they're too angsty, presenting coming out as an unbearable trauma and life after coming out as endless heartache, loneliness, and emptiness.   But High Tide (2024) is set in the gay resort of Provincetown, and it has a lot of n*de photos.  Who can be depressed, lonely, and empty while looking at cocks?  But I'll check out the trailer first, to make sure.

Scene 1: Lourenço (Marco Pigossi) runs onto a deserted beach, takes off his clothes, and jumps into the ocean.  Then, clothed again, he sits on the deserted boardwalk, staring into space, depressed.

Left: Lourenço as a tiny speck in the vast ocean.  The insignificance of human life...

Scene 2: He asks an older guy, "Have you heard from Joe?"

The older guy is irate: "You left him!"  So you should never hear from him or about him again?  But in gay communities, ex-lovers are our closest friends.

Then: "True love is something else!"

Lourenço starts to cry.

Scene 3
: He sits despondent on the boardwalk again, then meets a cute guy, Maurice (James Bland).  No one has been named Maurice since Samantha's father on "Bewitched."  It must be a homage to the early gay novel by E.M. Forster.

They splash about on the beach, then sit down with a lady whose boobs are hanging out.

Lady: "So you're Brazilian.  What do you do?"

"I clean houses."

Montage of our boy cleaning houses.  This is portrayed as the ultimate in humiliation.

Left: more beach bunnies.  Seriously, what is there to be depressed about?

Scene 4: Establishing shot of Provincetown, as Lourenço explains that he's here on a tourist visa, so technically he can't work, but he has to, because he needs the money...

The older guy tells him, "You're young and handsome.  You can do anything."

Scene 5: Lourenço and Maurice head to the bedroom and kiss (that's all we see in the trailer).  A review gushes: "Sexy, sad, and just the ticket."

Gavin McHugh: The gay-vague kid from 9-1-1 is now a teenager, with male friends and risque comments. Bonus Tyler cock and costar butts

That 90s Show, Episode 3.6: Ozzie dates, Theo gets groped, and the Human Erection gets dumped. WIth Theo and Noah nudes

Note: I reread this review, and couldn't understand a word, with four interconnected plot threads.  So I separated them.

That 90s Show is a nostalic spin-off of That 70s Show, set 20 years later, with the children of the original cast hanging out in that basement: Jay, the pretty one (Mace Coronel, left); Nate, the stupid one (Maxwell Acee Donovan); Ozzie, the gay one (Reyn Doi); and three or four girls, it's hard to keep track.

While the other teens merge in and out of complicated love triangles and quadrangles, Ozzie is always being stymied in his quest for the elusive penis.  He has a long-distance boyfriend in Canada, who dumps him before we can meet him, and then a lost connection with Isaac (Raphael Alejandro) in Season 3.  I'm reviewing the episode where they go on their first date, "Life is a Highway."

Kitty and Red's Problem: How to keep Otis from having sex with his ex-wife, and convince him to pay attention to his daughter:

Scene 1: Grandma Kitty, Grandpa Red, and Gwen's mom  are in the kitchen, doing stuff with meat, when Gwen's Dad Otis (Cedric Yarbrough) arrives with a big announcement: he was hit by a mail truck, and settled for $20,000, so he cand take a break from his truck driving job and spend some time with "his girls."

Gwen's Mom reveals a problem: whenever Gwen's Dad bangs into town, he's so charming that Mom jumps into bed with him, and then they start arguing, and Gwen is in the middle of it. Easy, Grandma Kitty says: "I'll just keep you from having sex with him."

Scene 2: Dad Otis is cooking in preparation for the big barbecue when his daughter Gwen and focus character Leia enter, wanting truck-driving lessons.

Scene 3: At the barbecue, Gwen's Dad Otis was allowed to cook, and now the wieners are all shriveled.  Penis joke, har har.

Also, Grandma Kitty was trying to prevent Gwen's parents from having sex, but they had sex anyway.  "It wasn't your fault.  Trying to stop us made it hotter."

Dad Otis also blew off the big, important truck-driving lesson, letting his daughter down, so Leia and Gwen drive off by themselves, with no lessons.

Scene 4: The girls only got a few blocks.  Still, Otis is furious  Instead of yelling, Grandma Kitty suggests talking, seeing what's bothering her.

Scene 5: Gwen explained that she stole the truck because her Dad keeps breaking his promises and is never there for her.  They have a heart-to-heart. Awww.

Scene 6: Dad Otis finally giving Gwen her truck-driving lesson. Awww. The end.

Nate the Human Erection's Problem: How to break up with your girlfriend when you have an enormous penis.

Scene 1: At the barbecue, Nate the Human Erection complains that wants to break up with his overbearing girlfriend, Betsy, because he's still in love with his Ex. He tried to break up, and she said "No."  Hey, wasn't this plot on Seinfeld around 1996?

Gwen's Dad Otis commiserates:  "I been there -- you lay the pipe too clean, the wild ones never let you go." Ulp, he's talking about Jay the Pretty One's sister!

Ok, how to break up with her: "Tell her that you cheated with that little hottie." Ulp, he's talking about Jay's girlfriend!

"Ok, just make up a girl. Say you cheated with Amy."

Scene 2: Nate confesses that he cheated with a girl named Amy, but girlfriend Betsy is fine with it.  In fact, she wants a three-way.

Scene 3: Nate the Human Erection is calling random women named Amy to find someone willing to have the three way, so his girlfriend won't know that he lied about cheating. They all hang up.  Maybe text them a photo of your penis?

Jay the Pretty One suggests getting super-clingy and scaring the girlfriend away.

Scene 4: Nate the Human Erection comes clean about still being in love with his ex, Nikki -- in Nikki's earshot.  The girlfriend dumps him, but Nikki doesn't want to get back together, so the Human Erection is out of luck.  Maybe Jay is available.

Nikki's Problem: How to convince your boyfriend to have sex with you:

Scene 1: Nikki, yet another member of the basement gang, and Ozzie meet in the diner.

Nikki's  problem: Her boyfriend, Theo (Anthony Turpel), just wants to kiss, and she's ready to go downtown, but he's shy, and she's never had to make the first move before.  Her last boyfriend was Nate the Human Erection-- she'd just look down, and his cock would be in her hand. Whoa, these are teenagers. Let's keep it G-rated!

How can Nikki subtly inform her new boyfriend that she wants sex?  Ozzie suggests going to a movie, making sure there's a box of popcorn on his lap, reaching for some, and missing.  Where'd you learn that trick, boy?  Isn't this your first date?

Anthony Turpel, age 24, probably has some beefcake or nudes online.  I'll check after the break.

Scene 2: Nikki takes her boyfriend to a movie, and tries the "reaching for the popcorn and missing" trick. He's fine with having her fondle his penis.

Ozzie's Problem: How to get your date into an R-rated movie

Scene 1: Ozzie can't go to a kid's movie on his first date, but for a R-rated, he needs adults to buy the tickets.

He asks Sonny and Bunch, an aging hippie couple, or heterosexual life partners -- it's hard to tell. They don't display any heterosexual interest in this episode, but they're played by Jay and Silent Bob, aka Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes.

They get all excited because they don't have any kids of their own, and will welcome the opportunity to become parents.

Scene 2:  Ozzie and Isaac are alone at the movie -- until the guys arrive to cover their eyes if something inappropriate comes on, like blood or boobs.  Guys, boobs won't be a problem.  Now, let's talk penises..

Scene 3:
Ozzie and Isaac sneak into the G-rated movie, Homeward Bound 2, which they actually preferred but were afraid to admit.

Uh-oh, Sony and Bunch are helicopter parents, and come searching for Ozzie and Isaac.  They yell: "We are looking for two young boys."  Pedophile jokes are surprisingly common in this show.
