You probably saw Luca (2021), the Disney/Pixar animated movie about the friendship between the closeted sea monster boys Luca and Alberto (Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer). And you were probably upset when director Enrico Casarosa vehemently denied the possibility of a gay reading of the couple. "They're kids! They're much too young to be gay!"
Got it, Enrico. All boys are born heterosexual, Gay is something that happens in adulthood, after you've tried heterosexual stuff and decided that it is not right for you. Gay is who you invite to your bed,, heterosexual is the Eternal Feminine that draws us to the City of God.
Yeah, I was unhappy, too.
But it wasn't the fault of the actors. I heard that Jack Dylan Grazer and Jason Maybaum (general voices) are gay. Let's see if Luca himself, Jacob Tremblay, is involve din any gay-friendly projects.
He has 43 acting credits on the IMDB, most long before Luca. I've never heard of most of them, but there seem to be some interesting gay subtexts here and there:
Gord's Brother (2015): The human Gord and his monster brother (Jack Irvine, Raphael Alejandro) searach for the legendary City of Monsters. Jacob plays the Young Gord.
Wonder (2017): "The incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story" of a boy with facial differences who goes to school. How to come up with a title that gives you absolutely no clue to what the movie is about.
There's a girl -- there's always a girl -- but he makes a male friend (Noah Jupe), too.
Good Boys (2019): Three six-grade boys skip school to go on an "epic adventure" involving two of them (Jacob, Brady Noon, center, recent photo) trying to win the Girls of Their Dreams (of course). The third (Keith L. Williams) is a bullying victim who doesn't try to win a girl. Hey, in a raunchy "coming of age" comedy, I'll take any gay hints I can get.
Will Forte plays one of the dads.
Left: As of this writing, Brady Noon is 19. Maybe I'll profile him next.
Potential Jacob. Or is it Brady?
Not a lot of gay interest in Jacob's projects since Luca. Mostly voice work: Pete the Cat, My Father's Dragon, The Toxic Avenger, Orion and the Dark.
And some "girls! girls! girls!" junk:
Damian Wayne, aka Robin the Boy Wonder in Harley Quinn (2019-24). In this rendition, Robin is Batman's son, not his sidekick, and he spends his scenes being immersed in soap-opera romances with girls.
Orion and the Dark (2024). The 11-year old has a Girl of His Dreams.
The Life of Chuck (2024) is advertised as "a miracle," "a masterpiece," and "the most profoundly beautiful movie of all time." The very first scene in the trailer shows a man and a woman holding hands. Later they dance as teenagers and adults, hold hands as old people...OMG a paeon to heterosexual romance as the Meaning of Life.
Oh, and according to the synopsis, it goes in backwards chronological order, beginning with Chucky dying of some disease at age 39, and ending with his mother dying when he was a kid. Nice.
Jacob plays the teenage Chuck.
Queen of Bones (2023 or 2024) is set in 1931 Oregon, where twins Sam and Lily (Jacob Tremblay, Julia Butters) either suspect that their father is hiding a secret about their deceased mother (IMDB) or find an old Icelandic spell book (Bloody Disgusting).
Jacob has a million followers on Instagram, 103,000 on Twitter/X, and 3,000 on Facebook, but his posts mostly advertise his movies. Not much personal -- which is a sure sign that he's gay in real life. Heterosexual guys load up with pictures of hugging and kissing their girlfriends.
The few personal photos suggest buddies or boyfriends.
Now if only he had some gay-positive projects after Luca.

re: sea monster boy (Jacob Tremblay) and a human boy named Alberto (Jack Dylan Grazer) - actually they are both tween/teen boy seamonsters; jack's character is completely obsessed with vespa motor scooters, which is a large part of how they end up going ashore in disguise as humans, making friends with the local italian kids, etc. (their human chameleonic-camoflage instantly disappears anyplace they get wet... )
ReplyDeleteSorry, I guess I forgot after all this time.
Deleteha, sry, i noticed you did a post on 'luca' AFTER i wrote & sent that.... >__<!?
Deletebtw, i THINK the guy with jacob in the final pic might be his older brother. i vaguely remember an old instagram post of his, with family at some holiday, & i think he had an older brother in it; & there looks like some family resemblance btwn the 2 of them in the photo on here.
if you haven't seen it, the 'toxic avenger' remake he was in isn't completely terrible. i liked it better than the original movie. i don't think his (jacob's) character had a girlfriend in that one, & he does dance & mime, & has a closing scene with a tutu (over his clothes, as part of his mime act). in no way is this the main plot, but he plays a somewhat a-typical "young teenaged son" character.
he gets murdered really well in 'dr. sleep', & he's also good in 'sovereign' (movie) but in a very different, bleak way (buzz-cut hair style for a change ).
